AN ARGUMENT FOR SAME-SEX MARRIAGE
P1. Permitting same-sex marriage would likely improve the public safety of homosexuals
P2. Homosexuals are a minority group
C. Therefore permitting same-sex marriage would likely improve the public safety of a minority group
This argument is also used for:
Homosexuals are often the victims of hostility for being “different” and therefore need protection. P1 is likely true as same-sex marriage sends a message to society that homosexuals are not “different” or second class citizens, which would in turn likely reduce hostility against them and improve their public safety.
The argument is sound but equally likely applies to other minority groups, such as polygamists and autosexuals.
