CONSERVATIVE COMMENTARY

Marriage is a strong social institution when couples ought to marry and do marry. In what has been referred to as the “revisionist” view of marriage (which includes same-sex couples), marriage is a deep emotional connection or romantic relationship between two people. This view of marriage offers no reason why couples ought to marry or ought to stay married.

If there is no social obligation to marry then less people will marry. Marriage ceases to be a strong social institution and becomes merely one of several options available to couples.
