No Sexual Exclusivity

AN ARGUMENT AGAINST POLYAMOROUS MARRIAGE

P1. Polyamorous wedding vows cannot include a commitment to sexual exclusivity

P2. Removing a commitment to sexual exclusivity in wedding vows would likely lead to less sexual exclusivity in marriage

C. Therefore polyamorous wedding vows would likely lead to less sexual exclusivity in marriage

CONSERVATIVE COMMENTARY

In a polyamorous marriage, there is always the possibility for another spouse to be added to the marriage. This removes the ability to promise sexual exclusivity as part of the wedding vows.

This would, over time, weaken the expectation of sexual exclusivity in the public understanding of marriage, which would be devastating for our solution to the social problem that every society must solve.
